“The Dog Days of Summer” are upon us!
Have you ever wondered what the “Dog Days of Summer” are all about? Most folks recognize the expression as a reference to the sultry, hot days of summer with some even suggesting that the extreme heat could drive a dog mad!
Actually, the term has nothing to do with weather, but refers to the period from July 3 to August 11. During this time, the brightest star visible from earth—Sirius—rests in the same part of the sky as the sun. Sirius is part of the constellation Canis Major, the Greater Dog. Hence, the Dog Days of Summer!
The “Dog Days of Summer” seem like a perfect time to enjoy some local fun with your own four-legged pal in your neighborhood.
