Veterans Day and the Number Eleven

In Arlington National Cemetery overlooking Washington, D.C., an unknown American soldier from World War I was buried in a quiet ceremony. The tomb has become a point of reverence and respect for America’s veterans.

Similar events had already occurred in England (Westminster Abbey) and France (Arc de Triomphe) honoring unknown soldiers whose lives were cut short during World War I.

The date? Each occurred on November 11.

Why is that date a significant part of the story? World War I officially ended on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11 month in 1918.

And as a remembrance, Veterans Day was born.

Looking for an opportunity to honor Veterans? Blah blah blah will be hosting a Veterans Day Event at blah blah blah. And you may find that most of the local start at—you guessed it—11:00 am!

Nearby Elk Grove will host a Veterans Day Parade. Learn all about it here and enjoy a morning of remembrance and gratitude.

Veterans, thank you for your service!
